Ans. The author thought that he would make an experiment by keeping an otter as a pet at his house in Camusfearna. He thought that Camusfearna would be suitable for keeping an otter because it was ringed by water at a very short distance. Otters live mainly in water or in marshy areas.

Ans. The author goes to Basra to the Consulate-General to collect and answer mail from Europe. His mail does not reach in time and he has to wait there for five days.

Ans. Mij was to be transported to England by air. The author knew that the British airline didn’t fly animals. So he booked a flight to Paris on another airline and from there to London.
Q.2. What did Mij Do to the box ?
Ans. Mij had torn the lining of the box to pieces. In making this effort, he got injured and there was blood at the airholes of the box.
Q.3.Why did Maxwell put the otter back in the box ? How do you think he felt when he did this?
Ans. Maxwell put the otter back in the box because the airline would not fly him without the box. He was in a tense situation. There were only ten minutes until the time of the flight and the airport was five miles away.

Ans. Maxwell says this because the air hostess was very cooperative. She showed great kindness to the well-being of the otter. She offered to get the otter back when it escaped from the box in the plane.

Ans. Mij had invented the game of a ball and a suitcase. The suitcase’s lid did not fit properly and had developed a certain slope. Mij would place the ball on the high end. The ball would roll towards the lower end. Then the otter would run to the other end to stop the arrival of the ball.
Q. 2. What are ‘compulsive habits’? What does Maxwell say are the compulsive habits of (i) school children (ii) Mij?
Ans. ‘Compulsive habits are those habits in which people indulged instinctively. These become the integral part of the people through constant use.
(i) School children place their feet squarely on the centre of each paving block. They touch every seventh upright of the iron railings. They pass to the outside of every second lamp post.
(ii) Mij would tug the author to the wall of the school near his house. He would jump on to it. Then he would gallop the full length of its thirty yards.
