Ans. There are many steps to be taken to control soil erosion in hilly areas. Some of them are as :

(iv) What are the biotic and abiotic resources? Give some examples.

Abiotic Resources : All non-living things are called a biotic resources. Eg. Rocks and metals.

(i) Explain land use pattern in India and why has the land under forest not increased much since 1960-61?

Ans. Land use pattern in India (2014-15)
1. Forest = 23.3%
2. Barren and unculturable wasteland = 5.5%
3. Area under non agricultural uses = 8.7%
4. Permanent pasture and grazing land = 3.3%
5. Area under misc, tree crops and groves = 1%
6. Culturable waste land = 4%
7. Fallow other than current fallow = 3.6%
8. Current fallow = 4.9%
9. Net sown area = 45.5%

Land under Forest :-
The land under forest has not increased much from 1960-61. This is due to increase in population which causes deforestation due to demand of furniture and due to fulfillment of land for house need.


(ii) How have technical and economic development led to more consumption of resources?

Ans. Resources are freely provided by nature to us. But humans are exploiting resources. Some of the reasons that how have technical and economic development led to more consumption of resources are as follow:
1. With increase in technology we can easily and fastly exploit resources.
2. With development in technology we requires more comfort that requires more resources.
3. With the development, we requires more mechanical power than human power that led to more consumption of resources.
