1. Why did the rattrap peddler take his way through forest ?
रैट्रैप पेडलर जंगल के रास्ते अपना रास्ता क्यों ले गया?
Ans. The peddler had stolen thirty kronor of crofter and have that money in his pocket. He was afraid that he would chased and caught, if he went through highway. So he took his way through forest.
पेडलर ने क्रॉफ्टर के तीस क्रोनर चुरा लिए थे और वह पैसा उसकी जेब में है। उसे डर था कि अगर वह हाईवे से गुजरा तो उसका पीछा कर पकड़ लिया जाएगा। इसलिए उसने जंगल के रास्ते अपना रास्ता अपनाया।
2. What did the peddler sell and how did he make those things ?
पेडलर ने क्या बेचा और उसने उन चीजों को कैसे बनाया?
Ans. The peddler sell small rattraps. He made these small rattraps with the help of wires. He collect these wires from stores or at big farms by begging.
पेडलर छोटे चूहेदानी बेचते हैं। उसने तारों की मदद से ये छोटे-छोटे चूहेदानी बनाए। वह इन तारों को दुकानों से या बड़े खेतों में भीख मांगकर इकट्ठा करता है।
3. Why did the peddler decline the invitation of the ironmaster ?

Ans. The peddler had stolen the money of crofter. He thought that going to manor house, he would be throwing himself into lion’s den. so he decline the invitation of ironmaster.

4. Why was Edla happy to see the gift left by the peddler ?

Ans. The peddler had stolen the money of crafter. When Edla knew that the peddler was a thief. she was deeply shaken. After reading the letter left by the peddler, she came to know what a gem the man really was. Now she was happy.

7. Edla is a better judge of character than her father. Justify. ( 5 mark)
एडला अपने पिता की तुलना में चरित्र का एक बेहतर न्यायाधीश है। न्यायोचित ठहराना।
Ans. Edla is a better judge of character than her father. when the peddler comes to her house. Her father takes the peddler for an old regimental acquaintance. He invites him to spend Christmas eve with him at his home but when he realises his mistake, he order the peddler to leave his home. Edla know that it is not the mistake of the peddler so peddler is in no way to blame on him. He never pretend like Captain Von Stahle. she provides the peddler good food and nice place to sleep on. Her kindness and sympathy transforms the peddler. She goes against her father wishes.

8. Why did the peddler sign himself as Captain Von Stahle ?
पेडलर ने खुद को कैप्टन वॉन स्टाहले के रूप में क्यों साइन किया?
Ans. The peddler was invited to the manor house by a mistake of Captain Von Stahle. He was treated like a captain in manor house by Edla. The peddler was trapped into a rattrap. This is the only chance to get out of this rattrap. Captain role helped him to get out of this. so when the peddler left the letter for Edla, he signs as Captain Von Stahle.
कैप्टन वॉन स्टाहले की गलती से पेडलर को मनोर हाउस में आमंत्रित किया गया था। एडला द्वारा उनके साथ मनोर हाउस में एक कप्तान की तरह व्यवहार किया गया था। पेडलर एक चूहे के जाल में फंस गया था। इस जाल से निकलने का यही एकमात्र मौका है। कप्तान की भूमिका ने उन्हें इससे बाहर निकलने में मदद की। इसलिए जब पेडलर ने एडला के लिए पत्र छोड़ा, तो वह कैप्टन वॉन स्टाहले के रूप में हस्ताक्षर करता है।
9. Why did the peddler think that the world was a rattrap ?
पेडलर ने क्यों सोचा कि दुनिया एक चूहे का जाल है?
Ans. The peddler was going through the road on his way. Suddenly, an idea came to him. He thought that the whole world was like a big rattrap. The material things are like a bait by which we are ensnared in this cage of world. Some have already been snared while others are still moving around the bait.

10. Why was the crofter so talkative and friendly with the peddler ?

Ans. The crofter was a lonely person. He had no wife and children. He was very happy to see someone in his loneliness. he was happy that he had someone for talk. That was why he was so talkative and friendly with the peddler.
