This chapter tells us the story of a poor shepherd who lived in Iran. Though uneducated, he was very wise and helpful. The king decided to meet him in disguise. The shepherd was able to make out that his visitor was none other than the king. The king was impressed from shepherd’s intelligence. So king made the wise shepherd governor of a small district. Other governors became jealous of the new governor and called him dishonest because he always carry an iron chest with him. They think that he have precious things in that. When king heard that he called the new governor to the palace. New governor was ordered to explain why he always carried an iron chest. Then he opened that iron chest and it contained no gold or silver but an old blanket . This blanket belonged to his master. He always take that blanket because it was his oldest friend. The king was impressed from shepherd and now appointed him governor of bigger district.

यह अध्याय हमें ईरान में रहने वाले एक गरीब चरवाहे की कहानी बताता है। अशिक्षित होते हुए भी वह बहुत बुद्धिमान और मददगार था। राजा ने भेष बदलकर उससे मिलने का निश्चय किया। चरवाहा यह पता लगाने में सक्षम था कि उसका आगंतुक कोई और नहीं बल्कि राजा था। राजा चरवाहे की बुद्धिमत्ता से बहुत प्रभावित हुआ। इसलिए राजा ने बुद्धिमान चरवाहे को एक छोटे जिले का राज्यपाल बना दिया। अन्य गवर्नर नए गवर्नर से ईर्ष्या करने लगे और उसे बेईमान कहने लगे क्योंकि वह हमेशा अपने साथ एक लोहे का संदूक रखता था। वे सोचते हैं कि उसमें उसके पास बहुमूल्य वस्तुएँ हैं। जब राजा ने सुना तो उसने नये राज्यपाल को महल में बुलाया। नए गवर्नर को यह बताने का आदेश दिया गया कि वह हमेशा लोहे का संदूक क्यों रखते हैं। फिर उसने वह लोहे का संदूक खोला और उसमें सोना या चाँदी नहीं बल्कि एक पुराना कम्बल था। यह कंबल उसके मालिक का था। वह हमेशा वह कंबल लेता था क्योंकि वह उसका सबसे पुराना दोस्त था। राजा चरवाहे से बहुत प्रभावित हुआ और अब उसे बड़े जिले का राज्यपाल नियुक्त कर दिया।
