Fair Play Summary in English
This story tells us a truth that how a Panch or Panchayat is above any relation. In a village, there were two friends, Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chowdhry. Jumman had an old aunt who lived along. So she once decided to live with Jumman and she transferred her property to him. This arrangement worked well for a couple of years. Then Jumman and her wife fed up from aunt. At last aunt decided to live alone and Jumman had to give her monthly allowances. But Jumman refused it. Then aunt take her case to Panchayat and Algu as a panch in presence of whole village. Panch voice is considered as the voice of God. After hearing and cross examination, Panchayat decided that Jumman must pay his aunt a monthly allowances or else the property goes back to his aunt. From that day both friends became enemy. Days passed and then Algu was in trouble as he sold a pair of bullocks to Samjhu Sahu another villager and he had to give money to Algu within a month. But bullocks died in that period. Now Sahu refused to give money. To solve this issue, a panchayat called. Sahu nominated Jumman as panch. After cross-examination decision was taken that Sahu had to pay that price of bullock. When Sahu bought the bullocks, it suffered from no disability or disease. Now Jumman also realised that anyone in the position of panch have to be fair. Both Algu and Jumman embraced and finished there enmity.

यह कहानी हमें एक सच्चाई बताती है कि कैसे एक पंच या पंचायत किसी भी रिश्ते से ऊपर होता है। एक गाँव में जुम्मन शेख और अलगू चौधरी दो मित्र रहते थे। जुम्मन की एक बूढ़ी चाची भी साथ रहती थी। इसलिए उसने एक बार जुम्मन के साथ रहने का फैसला किया और उसने अपनी संपत्ति उसके नाम कर दी। यह व्यवस्था कुछ वर्षों तक ठीक से काम करती रही। तब जुम्मन और उसकी पत्नी चाची से तंग आ गये। आख़िर चाची ने अकेले रहने का निश्चय किया और जुम्मन को उन्हें मासिक भत्ता देना पड़ा। परन्तु जुम्मन ने इससे इन्कार कर दिया। तब चाची अपना मामला पंचायत में ले जाती हैं और अलगू पूरे गांव की उपस्थिति में पंच बन जाता है। पंच स्वर को ईश्वर की वाणी माना जाता है। सुनवाई और जिरह के बाद, पंचायत ने फैसला किया कि जुम्मन को अपनी चाची को मासिक भत्ता देना होगा अन्यथा संपत्ति उसकी चाची को वापस मिल जाएगी। उस दिन से दोनों दोस्त दुश्मन बन गये। दिन बीतते गए और फिर अलगू मुसीबत में पड़ गया क्योंकि उसने एक अन्य ग्रामीण समझू साहू को बैलों की एक जोड़ी बेच दी और उसे एक महीने के भीतर अलगू को पैसे देने पड़े। लेकिन उस दौरान बैलों की मौत हो गई। अब साहू ने पैसे देने से इनकार कर दिया। इस मसले को सुलझाने के लिए पंचायत बुलाई गई। साहू ने जुम्मन को पंच मनोनीत किया। जिरह के बाद निर्णय लिया गया कि साहू को बैल की वह कीमत चुकानी होगी। जब साहू ने बैल खरीदे, तो उनमें कोई विकलांगता या बीमारी नहीं थी। अब जुम्मन को भी एहसास हुआ कि पंच के पद पर किसी को भी निष्पक्ष होना होगा। अलगू और जुम्मन दोनों गले मिले और शत्रुता समाप्त कर दी।
